How to Fax to Email Address

Online fax services let you send and receive faxes through your email account, thereby eliminating the need for a fax machine and dedicated phone line. These services (sometimes known as efaxing) are beginning to catch on simply because they are more cost-efficient, eco-friendly and faster. Upon registering with any number of credible sites, you will receive an Internet fax number that will allow you to receive (and send) faxes both domestically and abroad. Of course, the receiver will still have to have a fax machine to complete the process.

Take down the receiver's local fax number, which they can secure by registering with an online fax-to-email service like eFax, MyFax or RingCentral. Most services require users to pay a monthly fee, however a number of free services exist as well. In addition to having an online fax number, the receiver will also have to have an account with an email provider such as Google, Yahoo or Hotmail.

Create a cover sheet for your fax indicating who the intended recipient is, as well as your name and contact information. Prepare the documents you are faxing, placing the cover sheet on top and sliding this bundle into your fax machine, according to the loading instructions.

Dial up the receiver's number, as you normally would, and press Send. From the sender's end, this process is no different than sending a fax to another machine. However, the receiver will get your fax as an email attachment, which they will have to download to view on their computer or mobile device.
