Web-Based Email Versus ISP

Web-based mail is a web client used as an application that is accessed through a browser, or an e-mail service offered through a website like Gmail or Yahoo! An Internet service provider is a firm that offers its users access to the Internet through DSL, cable modem or Wi-Fi.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Using Web-based Email
Web-based mail gives you the freedom to change the ISP without worrying about losing contacts in your email address book. Since you are not a client to any ISP, you can gain access to your Web-based email from anywhere in the world; you will only need your username and password with an Internet connection. Moreover, Web-based email also provides a large storage area. Web-based email services provide you the facility of emailing, but the security is a concern since Web-based mail providers get their profit from the advertisements that pop up while you are checking your mail. These advertisements may contain harmful content.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Using ISPs
An ISP provides security standard against virus threats and privacy. To gain access to your ISP email, you have to be at home or the office where it has been set up. If you change your ISP, all your information and contact details must be fed again. Moreover, the storage capacity is also limited.

Summing Up
Web-based email is convenient and efficient. However, the security burden lies on the user. If the user is careful, this is the better choice when compared with ISP email. However, with the ISP, storage and inconvenience are major issues. Hence, Web-based email is preferred over the ISP by most people.
