Windows Mail Attachments Information

If you're having trouble locating an important attachment in the Windows 8 Mail app, you may have more success going straight to the source. The Mail app saves your attached files to a special folder deep in your hard drive every time you download an attachment. By navigating to the folder, you can view a single list of the attachments for all your saved email messages.

Press "Windows-E" on the keyboard to open File Explorer.

Navigate to "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\LiveComm\", replacing "Username" with your Windows account name. You'll find a single folder with about 16 number and letters in its name.

Open the folder, open the"120712-0049" folder, and then open the "Att" folder. The "Att" folder contains several other numbered folders, each of which contains the file attachments from a single email message. Some folders will be empty if you deleted the message.

Click the search bar in File Explorer while in the "Att" folder, and then type "." (without quotations) into the search field. Windows displays all the attached files stored in the subfolders using their original filenames.
