Send eMail From Yahoo Account to Facebook

Facebook has become the preferred medium of communication for many people online. If you have contacts who log in daily to their Facebook accounts but are tardy in checking their email, it makes sense to send messages to them directly through the site instead of their email accounts.

Overview
Facebook users can send private messages to one another through the Messages feature. But with a Facebook email address, you can use also Messages to receive email from a traditional email system such as Yahoo! Mail. Your Facebook email is the same as your username on the site, which appears in your Facebook URL. A Facebook email address can send and receive messages within the site just like a traditional email account.

Registration
To obtain a Facebook email address, a user can claim the address associated with his or her username. If your URL on Facebook is facebook.com/username, your email address is also username@facebook.com. Go to "Messages," click "Claim your email address" and follow the directions to claim your email. If you don't have a username yet, you can create a new one as long as it has not been taken by another Facebook user.

Usage
Once a Facebook user has obtained a Facebook email address, others can send messages there provided the owner has not put restrictions on who can send messages to that address. In Yahoo! Mail, click "Compose Message" and enter the Facebook user's address in the "To" box. Write a message and click "Send." Your email will be delivered to that user's Messages inbox in Facebook. An email icon will appear next to the message, indicating it was sent from an email address.

Tips
Not everyone on Facebook uses Facebook email. Ask your friends first if they have a Facebook email address to which you can send messages. Once you've obtained their addresses, save them to your Yahoo! Mail contacts so you won't have to enter the email address manually for each message.

Facebook gives users the ability to restrict who can send messages to their accounts. If the owner of a Facebook email address has placed such limits and you send a message to that address, you will receive only a system-generated error response. To decide who can send messages to your Facebook account and email address, go to "Account" and then click "Privacy Settings." View the settings for "Connecting on Facebook" and click the "Send you messages" button to choose a privacy level
