Gmail streamlined the process of switching from Yahoo Mail to Gmail so that you can do so more smoothly. To avoid losing contacts, import your contacts to your new Gmail account, set a vacation response in Yahoo to alert contacts you have a new email address, and forward your Yahoo mail to your new Gmail address.
Install Notify Contacts
Inform your Yahoo Mail contacts that you have a new email address.
Step 1
Access your old Yahoo Mail account.
Step 2
Click the Gear icon and select Settings.
Step 3
Click Vacation Response.
Step 4
Select Enable during these dates and set the date as far out as possible.
Step 5
Write a short note to explain that you've switched accounts, include your new Gmail address, and click Save.
Import Email and Contacts
Save time by importing your Yahoo Mail emails and contacts automatically. You must have access to your Yahoo Mail address to import your contacts to your new Gmail account.
Step 1
Open your new Gmail account.
Step 2
Click the gear symbol and select Settings.
Step 3
Click the Accounts and Import tab.
Step 4
Click Import mail and contacts.
Step 5
Sign in to your Yahoo Mail account.
Step 6
Click Continue to agree to the terms of use and privacy policy.
Step 7
Agree to the Yahoo Mail terms of service.
Step 8
Choose what to import to your new Gmail account and click Start import.
Your contacts and mail are now imported. It may take several hours or days before you see imported messages. Check the Import Mail and Contacts settings to see whether your import has started. If you see a message that your account requires another confirmation, click Proceed.
Add Your Yahoo Mail Account to Gmail
After you import your email and contacts to Gmail, new messages sent to your Yahoo Mail account are forwarded to Gmail for the next 30 days by default. If you want to continue to have new messages sent to your Yahoo Mail forwarded to Gmail, set up auto-forwarding in your Yahoo Mail account. After 12 months of no activity, your Yahoo Mail account will be deactivated.

Go to your new Gmail account and click the Gear symbol to access Settings.

Click Add a POP3 mail account you own.
Step 4
Enter your Yahoo Mail address and click Next Step.

Enter your username and password and click Add Account.
Wait for Google to tell you your account has been added. If you receive a message that POP access is limited to Yahoo Mail Plus subscribers, you may not be able to forward Yahoo Mail through Gmail.
Forward Yahoo Mail
If you are unable to add your Yahoo Mail account to Gmail or if you prefer to redirect your email directly from your Yahoo Mail account, forward your email from within your Yahoo Mail account.
Step 1
Navigate to Yahoo Mail Settings and click Accounts in the left sidebar.
Step 2
Click Edit.
Step 3
Select Forward.
Step 4
Input your new Gmail address into the Forwarding Address box and click Save.
