Top Swimming Colleges US

Hundreds of four-year colleges and universities have swimming teams. They compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I, II and III levels and well as in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Coaches with extensive international experience run the elite programs and produce scores of Olympic hopefuls. Top teenage swimmers from around the world are drawn to the consistent national title contenders.

UC Berekely
No school can match Cal Berkeley's contemporary recent success in both genders. The men's program won the 2011, 2012 and 2014 NCAA Division I championships and finished second in 2010 and 2013 under coach David Durden. The women's team reigned as NCAA champions in 2009, 2011, 2012 under long-time coach Teri McKeever -- who directed the U.S. women’s Olympic team during the 2012 Games in London.

Auburn University
The Tigers from Alabama's Auburn University in the town of the same name have dominated the Southeastern Conference and maintained the highest-possible national profile. They have won eight NCAA titles for men, most recently from 2004 through 2007 and again in 2009. They have earned five national titles on the women's side -- 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007.

Stanford University
The Avery Aquatics Center in Palo Alto, California at Standford University may the nicest outdoor swimming venue in country, and it attracts strong fan support. Stanford has produced eight national championships on the men's side and nine national titles with its women's teams. Most recently, the Cardinal finished second in the 2004, 2005 and 2007 NCAA men's championships and second in the 2001, 2010 and 2014 NCAA women's national meets.

University of Texas
Legendary men's swimming coach Eddie Reese of Austin's University of Texas won 10 national titles with the Longhorns, with the most recent victory coming in 2010. The school also finished second in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2014. Reese has served the U.S. Olympic team numerous times, both as head coach and as an assistant coach.

University of Georgia
The powerful women's team of Athens' University of Georgia routinely packs the 500-seat Gabrielsen Natatorium for the Southeastern Conference dual meets. Coach Jack Bauerle has won six team NCAA championships and 11 conference titles and coached the U.S. women's team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.

University of Michigan
Coach Mike Bottom of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, raised the profile of this men's program while building dual-meet record of 49-3-1 in his first six seasons. He went 31-1 against Big Ten opponents and won five conference titles and the 2013 NCAA championship. Bottom, who has coached in numerous Olympics, also coaches the women's team at U of M.

University of Arizona
In Tuscon, Arizona, the Wildcats finished second at the 2006 NCAA men's meet and second in the women's championship in 2000 and 2007. Most recently former Olympian and world record holder Rick DeMont has coached the teams. The school renovated its venerable McKale Pool into the striking Hillenbrand Aquatic Center in the late 1980s.
