How Much It Costs to Rent a Helicopter

The cost of renting a helicopter depends on several key variables. The most important of these variables is the length of the rental period. Obviously a longer rental will cost substantially more money. The type of helicopter that is rented is also crucial. A larger helicopter will cost more money to rent than a smaller one. Of course, the last variable is additional costs. Fuel costs and the cost of hiring a pilot may add substantially to the baseline price tag of the rental.

How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Small Helicopter?
Those who are looking to rent a small helicopter can expect to pay upwards of $200 per hour to do so. This does not include fuel costs or pilot fees (for those who aren't licensed pilots themselves). For example, one San Francisco area company called Golden Gate Helicopters rents out its smallest helicopter, the Robinson R22, at a rate of $250 per hour. This is fairly standard for the industry and is roughly what American consumers can expect to pay around the nation.

How Much Does it Cost to Rent a Larger Helicopter?
Larger helicopters cost much more to rent than smaller ones do. The company mentioned above, Golden Gate Helicopters, rents out its larger helicopter (Robinson R44) at a rate of $436 per hour. Of course, there are much larger helicopters available and the cost of renting them can become astronomical. Some helicopters may cost upwards of $1,000 per hour to rent. It bears mentioning, however, that most companies do give their customers a pricing break if they rent over an extended period of time.
