Improve Your Chance of Winning Lottery

Walking into a gas station and picking lottery numbers with birthdays and random numbers gives you terrible odds of winning the jackpot. According to the multi-state lottery Mega Millions, the odds of winning the top prize by choosing all six numbers correctly are 1 in 175,711,536 (as of 2011). Second prize has odds of 1 in 3.9 million. You can improve your odds with a pattern system by studying past winning and losing numbers.

Step 1
Track the lottery lotto results you are interested in playing. Each lottery has a website that shows all of the past winning numbers. Mark off the numbers on blank lotto cards to view the patterns.

Step 2
Find certain numbers and groups of numbers (e.g., the 20s) that rarely or consistently win. Choose the numbers that seem to have a higher probability of winning.

Step 3
Write down the numbers that win and the weeks that they are skipped. Follow the pattern of how many times they win and how many weeks they do not win, and choose them according to their pattern of winning. For example, if the number 10 wins every five weeks, pick the number 10 on the fifth week.

Step 4
Choose a mixture of odd and even numbers. The winning numbers are raring all odd or all even, so pick a mixture of either two-thirds even or two-thirds odd.

Step 5
Pick numbers over the entire lottery field. The highest and lowest numbers are rarely drawn. Choose two numbers that are high or low in combination with the numbers in the center of the lotto's number field.

Step 6
Add up the five numbers you have chosen, omitting the Mega Number if your lotto game has one. Sums that fall between the range of 106 and 179 account for 70 percent of all lottery jackpots, according to Smart Luck.

Step 7
Repeat one winning number from the last lotto drawing. According to Smart Luck, one number from the previous week's lottery is chosen again 42 percent of the time. Choose losing numbers as well. Pick numbers that have not been drawn for six games or less. They account for almost half the winning numbers.
