How to Make Good Photo Albums

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and that's why photo albums are so essential to preserving memories. Rather than purchasing premade photo albums from the store, which can be generic and expensive, you might want to consider making your own at home. With a few simple materials and a creative eye, you can create one-of-a-kind photo albums that will add a very personal touch to your photo collections.

Assembling your Photo Album
Step 1
Gather up all of your photos. While it is not necessary to have a theme for your photo album, sometimes it is beneficial to group pictures together by event, date or person's involved. This will help make the photos in your photo album easier to reference and enjoy. Determine how many photos you would like to include in your book, as it will help you decide on the binding for your photo album.

Step 2
Find a binder that is big enough to house your photos. These are inexpensive and can be found at your local office supply store. If you do not want to bind your photos together in a traditional binder, consider simply pasting photos into a journal or scrapbook.

Step 3
Arrange your photos on your cardstock paper one photo at a time. Before applying the photos to the paper, play with the arrangement of your photos so that you are happy with your photo page. Part of the fun of making your own photo album is having the freedom to assemble your photos however you like.

Step 4
Punch holes in your cardstock on the left-hand side of your paper; this is for easily sliding your photos into your binder. You can skip this step if you are not putting the photos in a binder, but if you are using a journal or scrapbook you will want to be sure your cardstock will fit to size properly.

Step 5
Apply your photos to your cardstock paper with photo corners. Photo corners are small triangle-shaped adhesives that you will place at each corner of your photograph. Available at most scrapbooking and art supply stores, they will make it easier for you affix your photos into place, as well as exchange them per your liking.

Designing your Cover
Step 1
Create your cover by decorating your binder, journal or scrapbook with paint, markers, paper or any other material you would like to use. To add extra personality and a more professional quality to your photo album, cut a piece of cardboard to size so that it matches the covers of your binder and super glue it into place.

Step 2
Cover your covers with desired fabric and staple into place with a staple gun. If you do not have a staple gun, consider using hot glue or more super glue. If you have sewing skills, you can even sew your fabric around the binder cover.

Step 3
Cover any exposed seams with ribbon or paper to create a clean look. Feel free to add any other decorative pieces to the front of your photo album.
