Mankind relies on electrical appliances for lighting, heating, and cooking. Unfortunately, it is common for electrical devices to fail after a period of time. When this occurs, it is useful to have a basic fault-testing device to diagnose the problem. Cen-Tech digital multimeters are portable specialist devices that allow the testing of electrical equipment. They consist of a main body and two measurement leads. The devices are capable of measuring voltage, current and resistance.
Connect the leads to the multimeter. Red and black leads are provided with the multimeter. Connect the red lead to the positive terminal and the black lead to the negative terminal.
Select the desired function by rotating the dial on the front of the main unit. There are five functions that may be selected: these are AC voltage, AC current, DC voltage, DC current, and resistance.
Select the measurement range for the specific function. Once the front dial has been rotated to the correct measurement function, there are a number of ranges from which to choose. Select the range that is most appropriate for the measurement.
Place the measurement leads across the terminals of the component that needs to be tested. The display will indicate the result of the measurement. Voltage is measured in Volts, current is measured in Amps, and resistance is measured in Ohms.
