Playig The Spider Solitaire at Home

Spider solitaire is a strategic card game that can provide for hours of brain challenging activity. To play this twist on the traditional game of solitaire you'll need two decks of cards, and some good strategy skills. If you're interested in playing spider solitaire in the comfort of your own home, learn some of the basic rules of game play to provide yourself with some card-playing fun.

Start by preparing the game layout. Shuffle two decks of cards together multiple times to insure the decks are properly mixed. Make 10 columns of cards going in a row horizontally and place four cards in each column face down, descending down from the top of the column, then place one more card in the four columns on the left, again face down and descending from the top card.

Place the last card in each of the columns face up. Your result should be 10 rows, the first four with five down-facing cards and one, on top, face up, and the last six columns with four down-facing cards and the top one face up. Place your remaining pile of cards face down about 12 inches below and to the left of your row of 10 columns. This will serve as the stock card pile.

Start game play by evaluating the 10 cards facing up in your columns. The goal of the game is to line up cards of the same suit in numerical order going from Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, and King. If any cards facing up are in the same suit and will fit together numerically, put them together. For example, if you have a five of spades and a six of spades facing up, place the five of spades atop the six of spades descending down so that you can see the sequence. Remember you cannot place a high card down on a low card, cards must descend down numerically.

Flip over a face-down card, after a card has been removed from atop that column. For example, if you moved a five of spades from a column, then flip over the face-down card underneath. Also remember that you can stack different suits atop each other--they just have to be in numerical order--and remember that you'll have to match them up in a similar suit sequence at some point in the game in order to win.

Deal out 10 cards from the stock pile, once you are done arranging the initial face-up cards. Place these cards across the columns facing up, descending from the already face-up cards. Now you can strategize to match up numerical sequences and suits as you please, in order to line up similar suits and numbers.

Continue game play, moving around cards in order to try to line up a suit in numerical order from Ace to King. Once you have lined up a suit in that order, remove it from the board and place it to the side. Remember that you can deal 10 cards face up from the stock pile and flip over any face-down cards in piles where you have removed the top card. Once you have lined all the cards up in suits and numerical sequences and removed them from the game, you win.
