Rules for Little Casino Card Game

Little Casino, also known as Casino, is a card game where players attempt to match and capture cards. It can be played with many or few people. Players have a variety of options during each turn, and many different playing strategies are possible. Casino is a mathematical game, relying on careful counting and addition to earn points.

Dealing
Decide how many players will take part in the Little Casino card game. Most games take place with two, three, or four players, because the deck deals out evenly to these game sizes. Choose a dealer for the round. Deal four cards, face down, to each player, and deal four face-up cards to the middle of the table. After a each player has dealt all four of their cards, an additional four cards are dealt, which continues until the pack is depleted. The four visible cards should be placed side by side. Set the deck aside.

Direction of Play
Begin the game with the player to the left of the dealer, and continue in a counterclockwise direction. During your turn, deal one of your cards face-up on the table to capture cards, create a build, add to a build, or trail a card.

Capturing Cards
Cards are captured in Casino by matching a card in your hand with single cards or combinations of cards in play. Face cards, which include the Jack, Queen, and King, can be used to capture other face cards of similar rank. A Queen of hearts could be played on the Queen of spades, and both would be removed from play and set aside. Face cards can only be used to capture one card in play. Number cards, A-10, are used to capture cards in two ways. Like the face cards, a number card could remove any number of similarly numbered cards in play. In addition, number cards can be used to capture combinations of cards which add up to the played card's number value. Both strategies can be used simultaneously. For example, a six card played on a table with a six, another six, a four, and a two, could capture all four cards at once; the two sixes because the number values match, and the four and two because they combine to six.

Builds
During your turn, your played card can be used to create, add to, or capture a build. To create a build, you must play a card from your hand next to another card, whose sum must be equal to the numerical value of another card in your hand. For example, a two may be played on a three to make a "build of five", if and only if you have a five in your hand. Once a build is created, those cards can only be captured as a set and only with a card equal to the value of the build; a build of five can only be captured by a five. Builds may be modified by adding cards. Adding a card from your hand to the build changes the target number of the build, provided you have the target card in your hand. You can also add a card to a build that is the same value as the target number.

Trailing
If you do not wish to capture cards or shape a build, you can trail a card by placing it face-up to the side of the dealt cards. The trailed cards is considered in play and open to capture.

Scoring
The player with the greatest number of captured cards receives three points. Count once point for each ace. Award three points to the player with the most spades, two points for the player with the ten of diamonds, and one point to the holder of the two of spades. Ties award the points to neither player. Play until a player reaches 21 points.
