Inspiring Business Lessons From The Bible

I have always believed that the bible is one of the greatest books ever written, the bible has principles for everyone in every walk of life. Independent of whatever field you are involved in, the bible has principles that can guide you and help you become successful. There are many lessons that entrepreneurs and business owners can learn from the bible, below are 5 of those to pay close attention to.

1. Always Invest for Gains- Matthew 25: 14-30 tells the story of a wealthy man who went away and gave talents to his servants, all his servants went ahead and invested and doubled their talents. All but one, upon the master's return, he was very pleased with the servants that had doubled their talents and was wrought with the one who didn't. The lessons for businesses here is to always invest for gains and aspire to do more with the limited resources you have.

2. Your brand is people's perception of you- One of the most important lessons in branding comes from the book of Luke in chapter 9 verse 18. Jesus asks" who people say that I am". In business, your brand is what people think of you basically, you may think that you are sophisticated, but if people say that you are simple, then that's your brand. It's not who you say you are, but who people say you are. Once this is understood then it becomes easier to try and manage your brand.

3. Be Honest- The bible is all about honesty and being honest with people. Honesty is one of the central themes of the bible. As business men and entrepreneurs, this is very important, be honest in your business dealings and success will follow you always. Mark 12:17 says, Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's and unto the God the things which are God's.

4. Use stories to promote your brand- Story telling is becoming a big part of doing business, many of the successful businesses today are the ones that can carve a good story about their brand. This is central in the bible; Jesus was a master story teller. Almost every lesson he wanted to teach the people, he used a parable. In this way he was able to explain all the principles of his father which was in Heaven. Stories are crucial with helping to cultivate your brand. Follow Jesus' example, tell stories.

5. Be persistent- As a business owner and entrepreneur, you need to be persistent. This is one of the qualities of many successful business owners and entrepreneurs. Many times, things may not go as you would have planned, you may fail at your first attempt. However you just need to keep going and not give up. The New Living Translation of Matthew 7:7 reads "Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for, keep on seeking, and you will find, keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you". It pays to be persistent.

Applying these biblical principles in your business can help propel you forward, there are many more lessons that entrepreneurs and business men can learn from the bible, and these are just a few. One of my personal favorites which I didn't include above is to be careful what we say, because whatever we say the things we wish for are the things that will be manifested in our life, the bible says the Word became Flesh. So we need to be careful with what we say before it becomes flesh. The book of life as I call the bible is filled with lessons for everyone. Making an effort to read and understand it can lead to a lot of success. Entrepreneur's should make an effort to apply these principles in their business endeavors and surely goodness and mercy shall follow them all the days of their lives as they go forward and do business.
