Facebook News Feed Issues

Your Facebook news feed keeps you informed of what's going on with your Facebook contacts. At times, however, you may find that some of your contacts' posts aren't making it into your news feed. When this happens, it is most likely due to one of many settings and options for your account. Rest assured that you are able to restore posts from contacts back to your news feed.

Top News

If it's been a while since you last logged into your Facebook account, your default news feed setting reverts to "Top news." The "Top news" settings shows the posts from your friends and pages Facebook has deemed most interesting. According to Facebook, this status is determined by an algorithm. Though the exact algorithm isn't disclosed, stories with the most attention from others in the form of "likes" and comments make the cut. Because these are the most engaging posts added by your Facebook connections, they are listed in order of relevance instead of chronological order.

Most Recent

The "Most recent" news feed setting shows all posts from friends and pages in reverse chronological order (most recent to oldest). This is the setting you should set your news feed to if you find you are missing posts from some connections. "Most recent" news feeds also continuously refresh themselves as new posts are made. By default, the "Most recent" setting displays real-time updates from up to Step 2Step 50 friends and pages. If you have more than Step 2Step 50 connections, scroll to the bottom of your news feed and click "Edit options." From the "Edit options" screen, you are able to change the number of friends and pages that are displayed.

News Feed Settings
By default, Facebook sets your news feed to show updates from "friends and pages you interact with the most." This setting is as self-explanatory as it sounds. If you haven't changed this setting, you are missing out on updates from friends and pages on whose Wall you haven't posted or posts you haven't engaged with. To change this setting, scroll to the bottom of your news feed and click "Edit options." Click the drop-down menu next to "Show posts from" and change the setting to "All of your friends and pages."

Hidden Contacts

Missing posts from a specific contact may be caused by that friend or page being hidden from your news feed. Though this action takes specific steps to initiate, it is possible to mistakenly hide a contact. To check, set your news feed to "Most recent" and click the drop-down arrow to the right of the setting. Select "Edit options" from the menu. The second section of the pop-open window is labeled "Hide posts from." Here, you are given a list of any contacts you've chosen to exclude from your news feed. Click the "x" next to the name of any friend or page that is on the list by mistake.
