Ideas for Teen Purity Banquet

Negative influences from media outlets often encourage teen promiscuity. As a way to keep your teen from engaging in risky sexual behavior, you will likely want to discuss the importance of abstinence -- and perhaps plan a teen purity banquet to encourage your teen and her friends to wait until marriage to experience intimacy. The proper preparation for the banquet will make it a memorable event for everyone.

Decor
The banquet's color scheme should reflect the message of the banquet -- which is purity and virginity. White is typically associated with purity, so you might want to adorn the banquet room in white and off-white decor, which will also give the room an elegant and traditional vibe. Include bouquet centerpieces consisting of white roses and lilies on tables as these flowers represent purity, chastity and innocence. Incorporate touches of metallic silver in the room to evoke a sense of softness or light blue for a calm, relaxed atmosphere.

Attire
You should ask the teenagers to dress in "modest" formal attire similar to clothing they would wear to a prom. They should dress elegantly to coincide with the seriousness of the banquet theme. The young ladies could wear long pastel evening dresses, white gloves and tiaras, while teen guys can dress in suits or even tuxedos to accompany the female guests. Present a white corsage or boutonniere to each teen to wear as they walk through the door. Suggest attending family and friends to wear dressy casual attire as you want the primary focus of the banquet to be on the teens.

Ceremony
The ceremony is the most significant part of the banquet as it symbolizes the teenagers' commitments to sexual purity. Ask the parents of the teens to purchase a purity ring for each teen in advance. At the banquet, have the parents present the ring to their teen to symbolize the teen's promise to practice abstinence until marriage. You can also prepare a script for teens to recite as a way for them to verbalize their promises after they receive their rings. Hire a photographer to take photos of this special moment in the teens' lives.

Speakers
Invite guest speakers to talk to the teens. These speakers can range from young, married couples who waited until marriage to enjoy intimacy to individuals who wished they waited until marriage to engage in sexual relations. If the banquet is affiliated with a church, you might want to invite the youth minister to speak, and/or contact a private organization that advocates abstinence to see if they have a speaker available for the event. The speakers should discuss the challenges teens will face by making the choice to remain pure, as well as the advantages of remaining pure such as avoiding problems associated with teen sex like unwanted pregnancies and the risk of disease.

Food
You can cater the food for the purity banquet, asking the teens beforehand what they prefer to have. Select several entree and side dish items for a sit-down dinner such as stuffed chicken breasts and sauteed vegetables or grilled fish on a bed of wild rice. You can provide the teens with a handful of choices and let them choose what they want. For a less expensive approach, have parents prepare potluck dishes and ask for volunteers to serve the food buffet-style. You can include a sheet cake with all the teens' names piped on it for dessert.
