While professional Web designers use expensive software like Adobe Dreamweaver to build websites, there are many options for people who want to establish a Web presence without making a big expenditure up front. From blogs to ad-driven free hosting sites and Web design freeware, there are many options to get a website up and running without an investment.

• Build a Free Website With Blogging Software

  1. Use blogging software like Blogger.com or Wordpress.com. This option is quick, and offers the simplest interface, but the options available are very limited.
  2. Gather the elements for the website. Collect all the text, pictures, video and other elements together in one folder on your computer.
  3. Build the site. Sign up for a free account and then type text directly onto the page. Upload images and video by following the instructions provided by either Wordpress or Blogger.

  1. Use Tripod.com, a free website builder with free hosting. This is a simple option, with a little more flexibility than using a blogging program, as Tripod.com has many templates to choose from and allows building multi-page sites. Tripod does, however, place advertising on sites it hosts for free, so this option may not be for everyone.

  4. Sign up for a free account and choose a template. Pick the template closest to the type of site being created, then follow the instructions to create a website.

This option is the most involved, as it can involve building a site from scratch, unless a template is used. Unlike Tripod or blogging sofware, this option requires a user to have a Web address and an independent hosting service to upload the site to when the design work is done.

  3. Start with a blank page and build from the ground up, or apply a template. Many programs come with templates, but templates can also be downloaded from the Web. Edit the template, then apply it to the site's various pages. Edit the pages and upload the site to the Web host.
