Create Your Popular Blog

Blogs are becoming very popular. They are used for more than just thoughts. Blogs now hold a lot of important information aimed at a target audience. Many blogs are created daily, but it is difficult to make your blog more popular than the rest.
  1. Determine what your blog will be about. It is important to have a solid idea. Try to be as specific as possible. This can make your blog distinctive and stand out from the rest in that category. Also, the blog subject should be something that you are interested in. If you can't produce content regularly on that subject, it is a good idea to think of something else.
  2. Start planning. Determine the number of pages you will have and what will go on them. Generally, the home page will be where you're recent blog posts go. A page should be made for what the blog is about. The rest is up to you. Be creative, but remember to stick to your subject. Don't stray too far.
  3. Produce a good foundation of content. It is a good idea to do this first before creating the blog. If you have a lot of content, you can make your blog substantial before it's even launched. Try to have at least 5 to 10 blog entries written before the launch.
  4. Make the blog. If you're just starting out, it is a good idea to get a free blog from places like LiveJournal or Blogger. Spend a day developing and creating your blog. The look and feel of it should match what the blog is about. Remember your target audience when creating the design. The pages and first blog entries should be complete that day.
  5. Advertise your blog. Let people know that it exists. Go on Craigslist, Facebook and MySpace to get the word out. These are all high traffic websites that are great for advertising. You can also go to blog communities like BlogCatalog to let more people know about it.
  6. Get the blog crawled by search engines. You can go to most search engines and request that your blog be crawled by them. This will help you generate more traffic. When people search, they have the chance to get your blog listing in their results.
  7. Update your blog daily. It is acceptable to update once a day, but aim for more. Blogs that update four to six times a day are the ones that become popular. If you are struggling to come up with content every day, take the weekend to plan out your blog entry schedule. When those days come, you will know what to write about. You can dedicate each week to a new topic within your subject area or do different topics every day. Every blog is different.
  8. Let your viewers participate. Give everyone the chance to comment. You can moderate them, but some people don't like putting their email address in the comment form. Other things like forums, quizzes and surveys are great for blogs. Your viewers will have fun and spend more time on your blog.
