Make Money While Being Student

The cost of college seems to be a never-ending upward climb, and many students find themselves in need of a little extra money to get through their education. Whether for tuition and books or clothing and makeup, adequate funds are essential for the college experience. Juggling classes and study time with a job can be challenging, but some types of work are more forgiving of the student's hectic schedule than others.
  1. Apply for freelancing positions. Writing and photography both lend themselves well to freelance careers and the Internet makes these fields even easier to break into. By writing articles or providing stock photos to various websites on a freelance basis, you can work when you want and allocate as much or as little time to your money-making efforts as needed.
  2. Check out local businesses and job fairs. College towns tend to be understanding of students' lifestyles. Keep your eyes open at the beginning of the semester for on-campus job fairs featuring restaurants, call centers and retail businesses near the college. You can snag a job working on campus as a research assistant or in the cafeteria. These gigs typically schedule around all your classes.
  3. Set up a tutoring business. As an upperclassmen, you have an ever-expanding store of knowledge to share with others. If you're particularly fluent in a certain subject, offer your services as a private tutor for a small fee. Depending on the subject matter, you may also be able to set up group tutoring where you work with several students at once.
  4. Offer personal services. Post flyers or list your services online, targeting residential neighborhoods surrounding the campus. You can find work babysitting, pet sitting, walking dogs, cleaning houses or even running errands.
  5. Monetize your blogging. If you already keep up with social networking, blogging for profit isn't far off. Focus your blog on a specific audience and commit to posting several times a week to get the most traffic. Once you establish your blog, you can make some money by posting ads on your site or signing up with affiliate programs. Advertisers generally pay for the number of clicks they get, while affiliates will give you a percentage of the profits from sales generated through your blog.
