Google Business Website Optimization

According to SEOWorkers.com, business websites cannot survive without optimizing for and getting indexed on popular search engines like Google. Because Google is the most popular search engine around, many business owners choose to optimize their websites for Google alone. Other search engines like Yahoo and MSN then index their websites, since many search engine bots follow a similar page ranking formula. By increasing your page rank on Google, search engine bots can easily crawl your website content, allowing other Internet users and potential customers to find your content and benefit from your services.

Use the Google AdWords tool to choose non-generic keyword phrases to use on your website that are related to your business industry. Pay attention to the global monthly searches of each keyword phrase. The higher the number, the more potential customers who are searching for that phrase. However, if the number of global searches is too high, you have an increased difficulty of ranking well on Google because more websites will be competing with yours. Use a variety of keyword phrases and not just single keywords for this reason, so that you can reach more individuals with different keyword combinations. Instead of describing your business website with the phrase "frog care," be more specific and use "African dwarf frog care." This allows you to receive visitors for "African dwarf frog," "frog care" and "African dwarf frog care."

Check the Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI) of potential keyword phrases to make sure that you will be able to rank well with your chosen keywords. According to Michael Fleischner, author of the book "SEO Made Simple," you should divide the number of global monthly searches by the number of websites matching your phrase after you search for the keywords on Google. The resulting number is your KEI. A high KEI means that fewer websites are competing for your keyword phrase, while a low KEI means that there are more websites competing and it will be more difficult to rank well for the phrase. Any keyword phrase with a KEI below 1 is practically impossible to rank well with.

Purchase a domain name with your keyword phrase and buy a hosting plan. According to Interspire.com, using the keyword phrase in your domain name, increases your chances of ranking well on Google because your main keywords will be in your URL. If you would rather use your business name as the domain name, make your keywords part of the names of posts and pages on your website so that the keyword phrases still appear in the URL. According to WebHostingSearch.com, reputable hosting providers include iPage, JustHost and HostGator.

Take advantage of meta tags to increase search engine rankings on Google. SearchEngineWatch.com suggests using the title, description and keywords meta tags. Place your keywords toward the beginning of all your meta tags to tell Google bots that those keywords are important. You can use the All in One SEO plugin on Wordpress to easily place meta tags. Simply place the title of your business with the appropriate keyword phrases in the "Home Title" section, a description of your business industry with keywords describing your business in the "Home Description" section and the keyword phrases describing your website separated by commas in the "Home Keywords" section of the plugin. Every time you make a new page, add a title, a description and keywords describing the new entry before you publish it.

Post regularly on your business website so that Google bots can keep crawling your website. Keep your content fresh and include keywords throughout each page. Maintain a keyword density of 2 to 3 percent. Divide the number of keyword phrases by the total words in a post and multiply the results by 100 to calculate keyword density.
