Linking to Same Domain for SERPs

Search engine optimization for the purpose of increasing the location and number of links on a search engine results page, or SERP, requires finesse, perseverance and continual learning. Search engines use constantly changing algorithms to determine the SERP location of websites. Understanding the algorithm and providing what it's looking for is the best way to increase page ranks on a SERP.

SEO Factors
In an attempt to continually offer better search results, search engines have crafted ever more complex algorithms. Some SEO specialists -- such as Brian Dean, founder of Backlinko, a training hub for search engine marketing professionals -- think there may be 200 or more factors that Google uses in determining the SERP for a given phrase. Many of those factors have to do with the links coming into a page and those going out from the page. The number of links, the type of links and the quality of the links all affect the final ranking for a site based on keyword searches.

Authority, Trust and Strength
Search engine algorithms look at domains and evaluate them on several levels to provide a rank for authority, trust and strength. The authority is determined by how important a voice in for a topic -- for example, Microsoft is an authority on Windows. Trust is built over time as links are followed by other users and other sites link back in. Strength is an overall picture of the number and quality of the links to and from a page on the Internet. Linking to pages on the same domain, rather than a sub-domain or a different domain altogether, increases the authority of that page, and the authority of the entire domain is inherited by all the pages on that domain.

High SERP Links
Linking to different pages on your domain can help to build your internal link structure, which increases the strength and authority of your domain. Also, by using individual pages on your domain, you may be able to have a SERP result on Google where the sub-pages are listed under your domain. However, the links must be relevant and useful, and not be just gratuitous link baiting. If your link adds value for your readers, they will click on it and increase its authority and trust, which in turn will add value to the SERP for your domain.

Many SERP Links
If you use sub-domains and link between them, you will sacrifice some of the authority and trust gained by linking to the same domain, but you will have the potential for getting more links on the SERP. SEO experts think that search engines limit domain SERP links to two per domain; however, by using a sub-domain, it is possible to have more links on the SERP. For example, instead of having only two links to "domain.com," you could have links to "site.domain.com," "home.domain.com" and "web.domain.com." While not all of the authority from the main domain transfers over to the sub-domains, some of it does if there aren't too many sub-domains -- for example, a blog on the "blogger.com" domain doesn't get the authority of blogger.com, but "windows.microsoft.com" inherits the authority of microsoft.com.

Improving Your Site's SERP Location
If you have enough content to support sub-domains with unique, valuable content, then you can increase the number of SERP results by cross linking your sub-domains. However, if you need to build authority and trust, focus on building the internal link structure on your primary domain with internal links, and promoting incoming and outbound links from and to sites with authority and trust.

Bing Not Available on Starting Computer

The next free application you install could wreak havoc with your operating system and affect the way you search the Web. Some software developers bundle safe but annoying adware with free programs that can alter search engine settings. Cyber-criminals distribute dangerous malware that may do the same thing. If Bing closes when you try to use it or doesn't appear when you start your computer, your system may have an infection you’ll need to remove.

Browser Hijacking: It Happens All the Time
Your default search engine is the one that your browser uses when you search from within the browser. If you've installed an app, particularly a free one, it may have changed your default search engine from Bing to Conduit or some other search provider. This is just one of many examples of Potentially Unwanted Programs changing your default search engine. A PUP can alter your default search engine settings in all browsers at once. If that happens, another search engine processes your search request when you enter it in your browser.

Find Bing Again
Unless you have a serious malware infection, you can always navigate to Bing's main page and type your search query in its search box. However, you may not want to do this every time you need to search for something. You might find it more convenient to use your browser's search box or address bar. Until you fix the problem, you can always bookmark Bing's homepage and click that bookmark when you'd like to visit Bing. This eliminates the need to type Bing's URL in your address bar. You can also consult your Browser's help menu to learn how to restore its default search engine to Bing. However, this may not always work if spyware or malware programs undo your changes.

Scan for Problems
Open your anti-virus program's main window and find the tool that lets you scan your computer. Your program's documentation can show you how to do that. If you have an option to perform a full system scan, choose that option. It takes longer than a quick scan, but a full system scan can identify more malware threats. Ideally, your anti-virus program will discover the PUP or malware that changed your search engine settings and show you how to eliminate the threat. Visit Bing after you run a scan and see if the problem has been resolved.

Scans Don't Always Work
Depending on your anti-virus program, it may not find all threats that reside on your system. Your program may also fail to identify adware programs that you gave permission to install. That can happen if you don’t read the fine print when you install a program or toolbar you found on the Web. That fine print may tell you that the setup wizard is about to change your search engine settings. If your anti-virus program finds no threats after it scans your system, download another application that can search for malware and spyware. SuperAntiSpyware, SlimCleaner and Microsoft’s Malware Removal Tool perform that task. Run one of these programs and follow the instructions to remove unwanted software that it finds.

Appear on First Page of Bing

Microsoft's Bing search engine offers businesses a way to reach a local audience through its Places for Business listings. When someone near your location searches for something, Bing offers local results matching the terms. Completing and maintaining your listing helps you stand out from the competition, placing you at the top of search results.

Claim or Add Your Listing
Before you can maximize your business listing, you need to make sure you're listed on Bing in the first place. Visit Bing Places (see link in Resources) and search for your business. If Bing already has your business listed, you can claim it to legitimize it and verify all information is accurate. If your business isn't listed, you can add it to start showing in Bing's local search results.

Categorize and Specialize
Listing your business with Bing does no good if you don't specify what your business does. Choose the appropriate category and specialties for your business to further refine search results and get your listing in front of searchers. For example, you may appear in a result with a hundred other “photographers” in your area but only a dozen “wedding photographers.” The more specific you are with your business specialties, the higher you'll appear in local Bing searches.

Fill In All Business Information
Bing compares the information in your listing with that of your website and other major business directories. The more they match, the more reliable and relevant Bing considers your listing. Ensure that all information, including the business name, address and phone number, is correct and current. Add your website's address, a photo and business hours to your listing to further stand above your competition.

Spread Out
No matter how complete your listing on Bing Local, you still need to branch out and place similar listings on other websites. These additional listings provide influential links and sources to verify to Bing that you are who you say you are and indeed still in business. Listings on other websites such as Google Places, YellowPages.com or Yahoo Local can help improve your ranking on Bing Local.

Making Natural Swimming Pool

Making natural swimming pool, also called a natural swimming pond, is a body of water that uses no chemicals or electrical equipment to disinfect the water. All the cleaning and maintenance is done through biological filters and plants. The pool is never emptied and refilled, as with traditional swimming pools. Swimming ponds have been popular in Europe for some time, but now American homeowners are choosing natural pools in order to add to their eco-friendly lifestyle. If you're ready to go green with your pool, you'll need to think like a landscape designer as you make your plans.

Divide your natural swimming pool into two areas: the swimming zone and the regeneration zone. The swimming zone is similar to that of an everyday pool, and the regeneration area looks very much like a water garden, Each zone will have a pool lined with rubber or polyethylene. The water in the swimming zone flows into distribution shafts. The shafts send it through a biological filter and then pump it into the regeneration zone. The water is biologically cleaned by the metabolic processes in the regeneration zone's environment, which is filled with the type of vegetation that will support this. In other words, the plants eat the algae and other impurities and then send the clean water back to the swimming zone.

Design your new pool to look like a pond put there by nature. You can build the swimming zone in a square or rectangular shape like many traditional swimming pools, but most owners choose a natural irregular shape. The regeneration zone can be along the side of the swimming zone or on another level

Line your new pool in whatever hue you choose. The lining comes in different colors, such as azure blue for a Mediterranean feel or dark green for the look of a mountain lake. The water in a natural pool is crystal clear, so it's important to choose a color you like.

Border both zones with stones, gravel or any natural element you choose. Plant wildflowers and lush green plants to border the pool. Add lily pads and tropical foliage to the regeneration zone. A popular design adds a miniature waterfall and a wooden footbridge over the regeneration zone. A sand beach is a nice touch. Some owners add a thatched beach hut for entertaining and to complement the natural look.

Keep the plants around the pool pruned, just as you would in any garden. While it's fine for some leaves to fall into the water, just as in any natural body of water, you'll want to stretch a large net over the pool in the autumn if you have many trees and bushes in the area.

Plan to pay about the same for a natural pool as you would for a traditional one. Depending on landscaping, the new pool could even cost more. You can also convert an in-ground pool into a natural one.

Precautions

There's no need to worry about irritating insects, such as mosquitoes, in your natural non-chlorine pool. Mosquitoes only lay eggs in water that is stagnant; the water is a natural pool is always moving.

Best Google SEO Keywords

Creating an attractive, compelling, and useful blog or website calls for outstanding writing, easy navigability, and an attractive "look and feel." But remember that in addition to writing for your target audience, you are also writing for an inanimate computer program called a search engine. There is a lot of outdated SEO advice floating around that can harm more than help, including advice on packing content full of keywords to achieve a certain density level, hiding irrelevant but popular keywords in your text or HTML code, and using automatic article spinners to generate multiple variations of the same SEO article. Google is always one step ahead. None of those tactics work any longer.

Ultimately, search engine optimization is based on Google's search algorithm, which is kept private. As a result, all we have are best guesses as to what works, and no computer program, artificial article generator, or tricky tactic will beat the system. Instead of trying to game the algorithm, the best approach is to respect its true intentions -- and that is to direct readers to well written and relevant content.

Keyword Rich Articles are Yesterday's Strategy
SEO strategies still often rely on finding a keyword and generating hundreds of variants of it, and struggling to include each variant into a short article. This has usually led to bad writing, as authors have paid more attention to packing keywords into articles than writing well. Keywords are still important, but since Google's 2013 Hummingbird update, semantic search has become more relevant than keyword search, and the Google algorithm is basing queries on user intent rather than specific keywords or key phrases. The new semantic search approach, along with natural spoken interfaces that are now common with mobile devices, has resulted in a major shift in SEO that focuses more on more specific key phrases, rather than key words, as well as a hype-rlocal focus.

Hyperlocal Search is the Next Trend
Google Hummingbird made searches semantic, and the 2014 Pigeon update added a focus on localized search. This trend continues as more users rely on mobile devices. Today's SEO strategy has to take locale in mind, making sure to update local geographic information so that it matches with other third-party local directories and includes specific mention of city and neighborhood. The algorithm now favors localized results, and even national brands are building localized language into their marketing content.

There Is No Turnkey SEO Machine
SEO is not a mechanical process. It is an ongoing, creative marketing function. The popular misconception is that there are tools available and high-priced experts out there who will alter your HTML code and install a magic SEO machine on your website. Plugins, programs, and text generators will always miss the boat. What's more important is being able to write outstanding content with the user's search in mind, and understanding the new processes of organic, natural language search. Keep in mind that Web users now expect to be able to ask natural language questions. Rather than using strict boolean search constructs and one or two keywords ("Pizza, New York"), they will instead use a search phrase like "Where can I find a good New York style pizza close to my home?"

Supplement that good writing with a periodic SEO analysis, and review of currently trending subjects, and let that guide the writing without forcing awkward sentence structure.

The Long Tail Keyword is King
Optimizing your website with a high-ranking, generic keyword will do little to generate traffic. A generic keyword such as "tablet computer" will simply have too much competition for you to have a shot at getting into the first page of search engine results. Instead, the so-called "long tail" strategy works best -- and that is to focus on longer key phrases, written in natural speech, which will be used to guide users to specific and often localized information. Of course, there is a place for the shorter keywords in each page's metadata, although Google now puts more emphasis on actual, visible content than those invisible indicators.

Your Web page that includes the word "tablet computer" may come in on page 25 of the search engine results, but you'll have a better chance of getting to page one if you optimize on something more specific, like "How do I fix my tablet computer," or "tablet computer won't boot," or "adding games to a tablet computer." Search engine optimization has changed significantly over the last few years, and SEO experts have to think less like a machine, and more like a human. And that's the key to good writing.

Webmasters want Internet users to be able to find their sites. Registering the domain name with Google requests that Google include the domain in its searches. This doesn't mean that Google will send your site to the top of its list, but it ensures that Google is at least aware of your site and its web "crawlers" will take your site into consideration when a search is executed.

Go to Google
Visit the "Submit Your Content" page at Google.com. Click on "Submit a URL" located in the "Here's How to Get Started" box in the upper right corner.

Enter the name of your URL. Copy the captcha code.

The "captcha code" refers to the funny-looking characters in the box that you must copy into another box. This ensures that people, not software, submits URLs. Software can't read these captcha codes, so this ensures that a human is submitting the site.

Be proud--you have just submitted your site. You have asked Google to let Google users know that your site exists and where to find it.

Give Google More Information
Submit your sitemap. Google indexes information on the web by sending out "crawlers" to check the information on every page of your website. A sitemap is a page on your website listing all the pages on your site, and shows which ones connect to which. Search engine crawlers follow HTML page links. If your site contains non-HTML links such as Adobe Flash or JavaScript, submitting the sitemap is especially important to show Google's crawlers how to find your find all your pages.

Return to the "Submit Content" page. Click on "Submit a Sitemap," located in the "Here's How to Get Started" box in the upper right corner.

Log in to Google, if you have not done so already. To do this you can use your Gmail account.

Click "Add" next to the URL for which you want to add your sitemap on the Google Webmaster Tools dashboard.

To the right of "My sitemaps()" include the name of your sitemap. Google will take several hours to add the sitemap to its database.

Precautions

Google might already be indexing your site. Use the "Site status wizard" to find out. Go to the "Site status wizard" page in Google webmaster tools (see Resources) and type in your URL to learn your current Google status.
If you add new pages to your website, don't wait for Google to find them. Update your sitemap, then submit both your site and your sitemap to Google again.

Ideally, you want to be found in the top 10, the first page of a search for your niche. One way is to purchase a sponsor spot for each of the major search engines. To have your business recognized by search engines for free takes a few extra steps that you can do yourself.

Create relevant content, using your keywords and keyword phrases at the top of your site and the end of the site. The content should keep the keywords spaced at approximately 7 to 10 words, but be sure to not overload your site because search engines will view it as spam and ignore your site.

The elements in your web page, including the footnotes, are important. Use keywords in your alt tags to links and as descriptions for your outside links. Use the links in Resources below for online tools to help with researching keywords and making meta tags for your website. If you do not have your own website and are using one of the many other services, such as blogs, keep your content rich with keywords and keyword phrases so the search engines will find you.

Tips to Find Keywords

Keywords and keyword phrases are the terms that are specifically implemented in website content. Certain keywords are chosen based on their search popularity, level of competition, and their estimated cost per click (CPC). Finding keywords for your content can be tough in the beginning, but once you learn where to look, it will become second nature. Learn where and how to find keywords:

Search for the right keyword tool. Many are free, while some charge a fee, but most depend on the same source to compile their information: the Google AdWords Keyword Tool. Google has built one of the most informative tools for advertisers and publishers alike, and it's the best place to start looking for keywords. The tool is free to use.

Start with topics you know. Enter one or two keywords into the search box at the top of the keyword tool and hit search. You'll receive a list of keywords related to your initial search terms, along with the current competition and the previous month's search volume.

Find keywords using Google's search engine, or test the popularity of the keywords you have selected. Visit Google's homepage to use their search engine and type in your keywords, one at a time. Google has a function that "completes" your possible search term, based on popularity. For example, if the keyword you enter is "shoes," Google suggest terms like "shoes for crews" or "shoes on sale" in the drop-down box. Because these results are based on popularity, it's a great way to find potential keywords.

Link Wheel to Get More Traffic

One great way to get a ton of traffic to your websites is to build a link wheel. These link wheels build backlinks to your website's main page, which give your website a higher search engine ranking.

Write a Squidoo lens about your website topic. Then put a link in your Squidoo lens back to your website. You can open an account at Squidoo by clicking on the link in the resources section of this article.

Write an article about your topic and submit it to any of the online article directories. You can use GoArticles or Ezinearticles or any of the other many article directories online. Include a link back to your Squidoo lens in your article or resource box.

Create a Hubpage about your topic and link it back to the article that you wrote in step 2. You can open a Hubpages account by clicking on the link in the resources section.

Create a Google Knol about your topic and include a link back to your Hubpage.

Make a one page Blogger blog and link it back to your Google Knol. You can actually use the same Blogger blog to place links for many different link wheels.

At this point you can either choose to leave the wheel as it is, and leave it "open" or you can close the wheel by linking your website back to your Blogger blog. Either way, you will see your website rise in the search engines over the next week or two.

How to Rank High in Google & Yahoo

After completing development of your website, the next step is to index ("search-enable") your site. When dealing with Google and Yahoo!, you can take several steps (such as creating a robots.txt file and using meta tags) that will help ensure your site becomes search friendly. To direct traffic to your site, it's important to understand how to set up your site for searches and submit it to the search engines of your choice.

Things You'll Need
File Transfer Protocol (FTP Software)
Knowledge of basic HTML or PHP (based on your site's page types)
Create a Robots.txt File
Open your preferred text editing software. You can use Microsoft Word, a simple text editing program, or any word processing software you choose.

Place the following code in the opened word processor application:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /
User-agent: Googlebot
Allow: /
User-agent: Slurp
Allow: /

The code "User-agent" tells search engines whether their search crawler is allowed to index the page in question, while "Disallow: /" and "Allow: /" tell the crawler whether it can proceed with indexing. Placing a slash "/" after the "Disallow" or "Allow" code tells the crawler it can access all pages on your website. For example, if you want to Disallow a folder on your site called "Private," you would type "Disallow: /private/" in your robots.txt file

Googlebot is Google's search crawler, while Yahoo uses a crawler known as Slurp. Crawlers travel from one website to the next and are responsible for saving web pages on search engine servers for future search purposes.

To save the file to your desktop as "robots.txt," click on "file" followed by "save as." Next type in the name "robots" and choose the "text" file type. Do not use the standard "Word document" save type or the file will be saved as robots.doc. If you do accidentally save the file as robots.doc, however, you can right click on the file icon and choose "rename," then type in robots.txt to change the file type.

Upload your robots.txt file to your site's main directory (for example, "public_html") using an FTP program such as Filezilla. You may also use whatever file upload method your website host provides.

Close your FTP program and wait for Google and Yahoo! to browse your website using the web crawlers mentioned in Step 2. The process of indexing can take a few hours or several months.

Submit Your Website for Searching
To submit your URL to Google, visit the Google AddURL website (see Resources).

Enter your site's URL in the specified field. Next, enter your site's "keyword focus" in the comments field. Your keywords should be words you wish to target for your site, such as "technology, arts and crafts, news, fashion, celebrities," and so forth. Keywords should provide a generalized overview of your site's content. Click "Add URL" to complete the process.

Submit your site to the Yahoo! Directory (see the Resources section). You may choose between the paid method, for a guaranteed 7-day approval process, or the free submission process, which may or may not get your site indexed.

Visit Google and Yahoo! and type "site: yoursite.com," replacing "yoursite.com" with the actual URL for your website. Click "Search" to see if your site has been indexed.

Meta Tag Search Help
Place meta tags as close to the page's <head> tag as possible. Meta tags are placed inside the sites PHP or HTML files (depending on how your site creates content). To start, create a title tag for each page. This tag shows the title for your page when people use Google, Yahoo! and most other search engines. Type "<title> insert your page's title here</title>." If you've completed sections one and two above, your site is now search ready.

Create the description meta tag. This tag should explain in one or two short sentences what the current page content you are writing or have written is about. Type <meta name="description" content="enter your content description here". Place this information directly below the </title> tag so it will show up below the title on search engines.

Create keywords for your content and place the keywords meta tag directly below the description tags. Type "<meta name="keywords" content="enter each keyword you wish to use, separated by a comma">.

Visit your website and navigate to the page for which you just created meta tags, for example: www.yoursite.com/testarticle. Check the very top of your web browser to see if the title of the article appears. For example, you would see the phrase "how to fix a phone" if you used those words inside the <title></title> tags.

Job Description for Google SEO

Search engine optimization is often viewed as the difference maker between success and failure in the world of online business. The growing field is increasingly gaining importance and prevalence, and new job opportunities have been made available at both online marketing firms and individual companies. An SEO manager will take on a variety of different roles and will need a wide array of skills and knowledge.

Organic Search Engine Optimization
One of the main priorities of an SEO manager will be organic search engine optimization. This includes all aspects of SEO outside of pay-per-click advertising, which is not included in the organic realm. Areas of importance include keyword research, on-page optimization, link building, domain name selection, overall marketing and promotion and more. Digging up important keywords and key phrases and utilizing them in the correct fashion remains a priority.

Link Building
Link building has risen to the premier task of any SEO manager. In the 2009 Search Engine Ranking Factors study compiled by Seomoz.org, factors related to link building held the top three most important spots for how websites get ranked within the search engines. An SEO manager will need to obtain partnerships and support within the niche or industry, find high-ranking websites willing to link back to the company site, offer services and collaboration with other webmasters and participate in various other strategies to help build links to the site.

Pay Per Click
Pay-per-click advertising is also known as paid search engine optimization. An SEO manager will commonly be responsible for running PPC campaigns. This work includes keyword research, bidding strategies, advertising copy and landing page optimization, testing and fine-tuning advertisements and more. PPC can produce powerful, instant success, and the role of SEO manager is to capitalize on that while keeping costs down.

Social Media
Social media is gaining more prominence in the realm of online marketing and search engine optimization. Nearly any job description for an SEO manager today will place a premium on a skill set that includes a proven track record navigating the ever-evolving world of social media. Being able to utilize tools and services such as Facebook, You Tube, Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn and others is of the utmost importance.

Firms vs. Individual Companies
The job description for an SEO manager working at a firm, as opposed to one working for an individual company, will be very different. The SEO manager at a firm will be handling multiple clients and accounts, and will be a part of a larger team that's all dedicated to online marketing and search engine optimization. The SEO manager working for just one company will of course be focused on their needs alone, and will likely have less help in terms of additional staff members to get the job done.

Google Business Website Optimization

According to SEOWorkers.com, business websites cannot survive without optimizing for and getting indexed on popular search engines like Google. Because Google is the most popular search engine around, many business owners choose to optimize their websites for Google alone. Other search engines like Yahoo and MSN then index their websites, since many search engine bots follow a similar page ranking formula. By increasing your page rank on Google, search engine bots can easily crawl your website content, allowing other Internet users and potential customers to find your content and benefit from your services.

Things You'll Need
Computer
Use the Google AdWords tool to choose non-generic keyword phrases to use on your website that are related to your business industry. Pay attention to the global monthly searches of each keyword phrase. The higher the number, the more potential customers who are searching for that phrase. However, if the number of global searches is too high, you have an increased difficulty of ranking well on Google because more websites will be competing with yours. Use a variety of keyword phrases and not just single keywords for this reason, so that you can reach more individuals with different keyword combinations. Instead of describing your business website with the phrase "frog care," be more specific and use "African dwarf frog care." This allows you to receive visitors for "African dwarf frog," "frog care" and "African dwarf frog care."

Check the Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI) of potential keyword phrases to make sure that you will be able to rank well with your chosen keywords. According to Michael Fleischner, author of the book "SEO Made Simple," you should divide the number of global monthly searches by the number of websites matching your phrase after you search for the keywords on Google. The resulting number is your KEI. A high KEI means that fewer websites are competing for your keyword phrase, while a low KEI means that there are more websites competing and it will be more difficult to rank well for the phrase. Any keyword phrase with a KEI below 1 is practically impossible to rank well with.

Purchase a domain name with your keyword phrase and buy a hosting plan. According to Interspire.com, using the keyword phrase in your domain name, increases your chances of ranking well on Google because your main keywords will be in your URL. If you would rather use your business name as the domain name, make your keywords part of the names of posts and pages on your website so that the keyword phrases still appear in the URL. According to WebHostingSearch.com, reputable hosting providers include iPage, JustHost and HostGator.

Take advantage of meta tags to increase search engine rankings on Google. SearchEngineWatch.com suggests using the title, description and keywords meta tags. Place your keywords toward the beginning of all your meta tags to tell Google bots that those keywords are important. You can use the All in One SEO plugin on Wordpress to easily place meta tags. Simply place the title of your business with the appropriate keyword phrases in the "Home Title" section, a description of your business industry with keywords describing your business in the "Home Description" section and the keyword phrases describing your website separated by commas in the "Home Keywords" section of the plugin. Every time you make a new page, add a title, a description and keywords describing the new entry before you publish it.

Post regularly on your business website so that Google bots can keep crawling your website. Keep your content fresh and include keywords throughout each page. Maintain a keyword density of 2 to 3 percent. Divide the number of keyword phrases by the total words in a post and multiply the results by 100 to calculate keyword density.

Build Online Yellow Pages

Yellow pages are an excellent source of business information and business services. If someone needs a service, such as an attorney, locksmith, general contractor, electrician, or landscape architect, they often check the phone book. Since the internet era, these yellow page phone books have moved to online yellow page sites.

In order to build an online yellow pages site, the data is the most critical component. The data has to be current, user-friendly, and accurate. The database will need to be updated regularly to ensure that the information that your users receive is filtered in a way that they can use it. That users are able to receive this information immediately is also of major importance.

Determine which areas that you will service. Make a decision as to whether your yellow pages online will service the local, regional, national, or global space. The users can come from anywhere, but the actual businesses that you include in your database will reside in a specific area.

Compile the business database for your website. Every business in your chosen service area should be included in your database, with their respective heading or category. Examples of headings include roofer, physician, kennel and plumber. If you decide on a national service area, then your database will include all businesses in the nation, which is an extremely large database.

Design your website completely around your user's ability to search for business services. The user-friendliness and response time to get information will be the most significant part of your website. Your chosen web developer must download your database into a searchable format and build an interactive website that allows users to not only search for the businesses of their choice, but receive the appropriate response from your website.

Launch your website using a dedicated server. The size of your database and the functionality of your website will require you to lease or purchase your own server. Use a gradual launch that allows you to manage and control the technology facets of your yellow pages online. This will also eliminate overwhelming your server by trying to do too much too soon. Making changes to the database and editing are also easier with your own server.

What are Lsi Keywords

LSI is the acronym for Latent semantic indexing. Latent semantic indexing attempts to identify related terms and concepts through mathematical analysis. In other words, it looks to determine the meaning of words by the words and phrases used around them.

For example, if you were to write an article on Microsoft Windows, how would a search engine know your article was about an operating system and not home construction? Through the concept of LSI, the search engine would scan that article and find terms that would be computer-related, and classify that article accordingly.

While it is debated whether search engines use latent semantic indexing extensively, finding LSI keywords is relatively easy, and a great way to discover other topics when writing for your website.

Generate LSI keywords yourself. What's misleading about LSI is that it uses an advanced mathematical formula to do something that's very easy for the human brain to accomplish. Simply think about your topic and then write down all the words related to it. For example, if you had a website about "fruit," some good LSI keywords would be "apples," "pears," and "bananas."

Use Google's own data to discover LSI keywords. Google has two free online tools that work well for LSI research. The first is Google's own keyword tool. Gathering the related terms from this data will yield many LSI options. The second is Google's "Wonder Wheel." By selecting the "Wonder Wheel" option on a general search page, a wheel diagram will be displayed that shows terms related to your search query. You can click on these related terms to discover more keywords.

Use a third-party research tool, such as Quintura. Quintura is a "visual search engine" and will provide an LSI map as the default for every search performed.

Add Your Domain to Yahoo

Yahoo! has a strong foothold in the search engine market -- its ranking is second only to Google, according to comScore's 2010 analysis of the search marketplace. The company hunts for new pages on the Internet on its own, making it possible to be found by the search engine without doing a thing, but you can submit your website's domain name directly to Yahoo! through "Yahoo! Site Explorer," a feature that gives Yahoo! searchers a comprehensive view of your website's content. There's also another way to saturate Yahoo! with your web presence: pay for a Yahoo! Directory listing.

Yahoo email address
Log into the Yahoo! Account that you want to associate with your domain name. You may use this same account to submit URLs or sitemaps to Yahoo! in the future.

Choose pages of your website to submit to Yahoo! Site Explorer. Add popular, attractive or interesting pages by first entering siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com into your browser, then copy and paste or type the URL into the "My Sites" field. Click "Add My Site" to submit the page.

Submit a site feed URL to Yahoo! Site Explorer, if you have one. Select "Submit Your Site" from the main menu and then click "Submit Site Feed." Place your domain's site feed or sitemap URL into the single field form and click "Submit Feed."

Add your domain to Yahoo! Directory Listings with the "Yahoo! Directory Submit" feature. Qualified business sites that meet criteria such as fully working links and compatibility with multiple browsers may qualify for a spot in the Yahoo! directory. Log into the Yahoo! email address that you associate with your business, visit ecom.yahoo.com/dir/submit/intro/ and click "Get Started" to complete an application.

What Is Pingback for Google

A pingback is a fairly recent term in the Internet world, referring to a sort of incoming link from one website or blog to another. Pingbacks have becoming increasingly important, especially for bloggers who interact often and depend on incoming links for much of their blog traffic. To fully understand a pingback, you must examine how it works and why it is important for today's bloggers.

Mechanics
When you include a link to another blog inside your website or blog's content, the fact that you linked to the blog will appear in its comments section. This will happen only if the the other blog's software is set up to accept pingbacks. The pingback appears in the comments section as a quote from your site and provides a link to your content. If you are the one receiving the link, you may be asked to approve a comment that looks like this. Unless it is coming from a spam site, you should approve it.

How to Get Pingbacks
Getting a pingback means someone linked to your blog. This person may be another blogger or site owner, meaning they may have found your blog through a search engine, but more likely from a link on another blog they read or a comment you made. Bloggers trust the word of other bloggers and do a lot of reading. If you interact in the blogging world by reading other sites and commenting, chances are, other bloggers will visit your site. If you write high-quality, useful content, someone may link to you and generate a pingback.

Pingbacks and Google
Pingbacks increase the incoming links to your blog. This makes the Google spider (the page-ranking algorithm) like you more. While your Google page rank is not totally dependent on backlinks, they can give you a serious boost. And it's likely that if you have other blogs linking to you, your content is pretty good and Google already favors you over keyword-stuffed, contentless sites.

How Pingbacks Help
Pingbacks not only drive traffic to your blog from Google, they also increase your presence in the blogging world. They are a way of showing other bloggers that you read their work. This allows you to build Internet relationships, which will generate future traffic for your blog. Pingbacks can increase your non-Google traffic because people reading the blog's comments may click the link to your site.

How to Get Organic Web Traffic

Web traffic has a direct impact on the success of any website project. Understanding the types of traffic your site is getting can help you to make adjustments either to your marketing efforts or the site itself, maximizing on the visitors your site receives. You can use various types of paid Internet advertising and marketing to drive traffic to a site, but sometimes the most valuable traffic is from free links.

Listings
Organic Web traffic comes from any unpaid listings your site appears in. This includes the unpaid listings for your site pages in search engines, directories and guides. Search engines are the main source type for organic traffic. If someone types a phrase or word into a search engine, then clicks a link to your site in the resulting page, that is organic traffic. The main search engines include Google, Yahoo!, Bing and MSN, all of which may be sending traffic to your site.

Analysis
Many Web hosts provide traffic analysis tools that you can normally access through the Web browser. These tools display the number of visits your site has received over a set period, as well as where those visitors have come from. Many webmasters also opt to use the free Google Analytics tool, which provides detailed statistics on all aspects of website traffic. In addition to seeing how much of your site traffic is from search engines, it can be useful to see which keywords people are searching for before ending up at your website pages.

SERPs
SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) are the listings users see when they perform a search in a search engine. Most organic traffic occurs when people click the links in these pages. The sites appearing closest to the top of the listings receive the most traffic from them. Users are more likely to click the links appearing first or nearest the top. Website administrators and marketers therefore strive to create sites that will perform well in the SERP listings, as this can have a dramatic impact on traffic.

SEO
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the practice of maximizing site performance in search engines. Many companies offer paid SEO services, but some site owners carry out SEO activities themselves. SEO can involve making alterations to the content of a site, tailoring the text within its pages to effectively target the search keywords a site is listed for. The search engine algorithms are extremely complex and in some cases shrouded in mystery, so it can be difficult to determine which SEO tactics are likely to be most successful. Building links to your site from other websites is another common SEO technique, as sites with lots of quality links tend to rank higher within the SERPs.
