Facebook pages come in six broad categories, two of which are Local Business or Place and Company, Organization or Institution. The chief difference between these two categories is the availability of certain information fields that are visible to the public when it views the information sections of the pages.
Creating the Page
When creating a new Facebook page for a local business or place, you must first fill out the category, business name, street address, city, state, zip code and phone number. Creating a page for a company, organization or institution requires only the category and business name to get started. This is because local businesses are more likely to cater to foot traffic, while organizations tend to be more administrative. Both types of pages can list an address later in the page creation process.
Hours, Price and Parking
Facebook local business pages have fields for listing hours of operation, the price range customers can expect for the business's products or services and the kinds of parking customers can take advantage of. Organization pages don't have these fields.
Founding Date and Mission
Facebook organization pages have fields for listing the organization's founding date, mission, any awards and recognitions it may have received in the past and products or services it specializes in. Local business pages don't have these fields.
Bing Map Listing
Local businesses and organizations can both feature a Bing map on their pages based on the company's physical address, but local businesses are more likely to use the feature. You can turn the Bing map feature on or off by clicking the "Edit Page" button in the upper right corner of the screen and then clicking "Basic Information."
