Get Rid of Advertising on Google

Google has become so ubiquitous that its name has practically become a verb. Many users call Google their homepage on the web, searching for anything from movie showtimes to product reviews. Google, like most other sites, uses web advertising for its revenue, so most search pages have sponsored ads. These ads can be distracting and visually unappealing. Luckily, both Safari and Firefox have ways of circumventing said ads.

Download and install Firefox from http://www.mozilla.com.

Launch Firefox. Select "Tools" from the toolbar, then select "Add-ons." A new window will open.

Type "Adblock" into the search bar of the new window and press return. Adblock Plus will be the first result. Select "Add to Firefox." Click "Install Now" when prompted.

Restart Firefox in order for the installation to take effect.

Via Safari
Download and install Safari from http://www.apple.com/safari/download.

Download Safari adblock from http://www.burgersoftware.com/en/safariadblock. Open the .dmg file after downloading and follow the on-screen instructions to install adblock.

Restart Safari to activate the adblock plugin.
