Put Sound in Facebook Messaging

Facebook instant messaging, or chat, lets you transmit messages to your confirmed friends in real time. Chat from the corner of your Facebook screen, or use the pop-out feature to open your conversation in a new browser window. If you want to do other tasks on your computer while you have a chat conversation, use the sound feature. A new sound will alert you each time you receive an incoming message--you are free to browse the Internet and only return to the chat screen when a new message appears.

Click on the gray icon in the bottom right corner of any Facebook screen that says "Chat."

Click on the "Options" tab, located just above your list of online friends.

Click "Play Sounds for New Messages" in the "Options" menu. A check mark will appear next to the option, letting you know sounds have been enabled. If you want to turn sounds off again, just click on the same line again to remove the check mark and silence sounds.
