Search for Animated GIFs in Google

More than a decade ago, the term "GIF" hardly inspired images of LOL cats on repeat or people falling down the stairs, but the compatibility with short animation has made GIFs one of the most popular file formats online. While you can roam through thousands of GIF directories to find the ones you like, an easier approach is to use Google. Because GIF is a specific file format, you can use specific search terms to search for only GIFs related to your desired phrases or keywords.

Prepare a list of keywords related to the type of GIFs you want to find before performing your search. Keywords may consist of single words, multiple words or short phrases.

Open your preferred Web browser on your computer and navigate to Google.com.

Type "filetype:GIF" into the search bar at the top of the page and then type one of your keywords. You can also access the file type setting by clicking the "Advanced Search" link under the search field on the main page of Google.

Click the "Search" button or press the "Enter" key to perform your search. All your results will be in the GIF file format.
