Stop Google From Hijacking

The first page that appears when you access the Internet is called your homepage. On a Windows computer, the default homepage is the Microsoft Internet Explorer website. Although many cases of homepage hijacking are due to viruses, some Web browsers, legitimate programs and websites, including Google, will also change your homepage to their own website. Unlike hijacking by viruses or malicious programs or websites, if Google changes your homepage, it is not a security risk.

Click the "Start" icon on the bottom of the screen, in the left corner. Select "Control Panel" from the menu.

Click the arrow on the "View By" drop-down box in the top-right comer of the window. Select "Large Icons." Click "Internet Options" once the window reorganizes the icons.

Click the General Tab. In the "Home Page" section, if you want a specific homepage, enter the Web address. If you want the homepage to be the default Microsoft page, click the "Use Default" button. If you want a blank page to appear when you open your Web browser, click the "Use Blank" button.

Click "Apply" to save the settings and click "OK" to close the menu.
