Activating Gmail’s Multiple Inboxes feature opens the door to separate inboxes in your dashboard -- in addition to your primary inbox. The feature is an experimental Gmail Labs tool designed to enhance your Gmail experience. You can choose the messages that appear in a new inbox by creating an appropriate filter -- such as “Starred” to display all of your starred messages. You can access the Multiple Inboxes feature through Gmail’s Settings menu.
Log in to your Gmail account, select the gear-shaped "Settings" icon and click "Settings" to open the Settings page.
Select the "Labs" tab to open the Labs page which has the list of labs.
Scroll down the list until you get to Multiple Inboxes section and then select the "Enable" radio button.
Click the "Save Changes" button. The page automatically redirects to your Gmail inbox.
Re-open the Settings page and select the "Multiple Inboxes" tab.
Configure the settings on the Multiple Inboxes tab. For example, select the location that you want the new inboxes to appear in your Gmail dashboard -- such as "Right Side of the Inbox." Click the "Save Changes" button to complete the process.
Tips & Warnings
You need to disable all inbox tabs -- such as Social and Promotions -- in your Gmail dashboard to activate the Multiple Inboxes feature. Click the "Settings" icon and select "Configure Inbox" to open the Select Tabs to Enable pop-up box. Clear all the check boxes -- except the Primary check box -- and then click the "Save" button.
