Best Online Email Accounts

If you want to register for quality email service, you may be confused by the amount of choices available. Luckily, some of the best email services are free, meaning you can try out a provider, and, if you do not like it, simply stop using it and move on.

Gmail
Gmail is Google's free email service. Features include spam protection and warnings that caution users against an email being a potential phishing message. The service also includes virus scanning for every email message and 8 GB of inbox storage.

Windows Live
Formerly known as Hotmail, Windows Live is a new email service from Microsoft that improves on Hotmail. The service offers users a powerful spam blocker, virus scanning for every message and 25 GB of storage for your inbox. You can organize your messages easily and chat with Windows Live users through the built-in Windows Live Messenger application that can be used inside the email service. If you have a Hotmail email address, this will work with Windows Live, as well.

Yahoo!
One of the oldest email services still in existence, Yahoo's offering has been updated to compete with its competition. Users are now given unlimited inbox storage. Spam is automatically sent to the "Bulk" mail folder so you can look through the folder or choose to delete all of the spam at once. The anti-virus program "Norton AntiVirus" is used to scan every incoming and outgoing message so no infected messages arrive at either end.

AOL
Another option around for a long time is AOL's email service. AOL also offers unlimited inbox storage. It scans the email messages you send and receive with McAfee's anti-virus scanner. Spam is fought by allowing the user to determine how sensitive the spam filter is. Users can set the spam filter to low, medium or high or turn it off.
