Many people use their computers with an email client operating in the background. This is so they can receive messages in a timely manner. When concentrating other things, though, you may forget to check your email regularly. Outlook and Windows Mail include settings that let you receive an audible "New Message" notification. This sound plays when a new message comes in.
Microsoft Outlook
Open Microsoft Outlook.
lick "Tools" from the top menu bar. Choose "Options" from the list.
Select the "Preferences" tab. Click the "Email Options" button. Click the "Advanced Email Options" button.
Check the box labeled "Play a Sound." Click "OK." Close out the dialog box by pressing "OK" two more times.
Windows Mail
Open Windows Mail.
Click "Tools" on the top menu bar. Choose "Options" from the list.
Check the box marked "Play a Sound When New Messages Arrive."
Click "Apply" and "OK."
