Read Hidden Data in Email

Most email users do not even realize there is hidden data packed with the messages they send and receive. By default, email programs and web-based email interfaces hide this information. In most cases, this hidden data is not relevant to sending and receiving messages, however, there are situations that justify the need to retrieve that data. This unseen information is stored in the email's header and can be useful to know when reporting spam to your email provider or figuring out who spoofed an email message.

Retrieve Hidden Data From Gmail
Open your email message from the Gmail user interface.

Click on the down arrow next to the upper left button marked "Reply."

Select "Show Original" from the pull-down menu. The header will show in the window with message text. The hidden data shows above the message.
