Delete Your Yahoo eMail Account

Yahoo email started out as Rocketmail in 1997. In the early-2000s, Rocketmail was terminated and the company switched exclusively to the Yahoo Web-based email format. Like Hotmail and Gmail, Yahoo offers free online email accounts, as well as upgraded email subscriptions. If you want to get rid of your Yahoo! email account, you can simply delete it. However, doing so is irreversible.

Log in to your Yahoo! account. Locate any messages, photos or attachments that you want to save. You'll be unable to retrieve them after deleting your account. Additionally, you may want to export your contacts so you can import them into your new email. To export your contacts, click on "Options," "Mail Options" then "Import/Export."

Visit the Yahoo! email termination page. Sign in to your account to access the page.

Read over the terms and conditions carefully. Deleting your Yahoo email account deletes your entire Yahoo portfolio, including Yahoo! Briefcase and HotJobs. If necessary, visit your other Yahoo! accounts to backup important files.

Type your password at the bottom of the page for verification. Type the "Captcha" puzzle beneath it, and then click "Yes, Terminate This Account."
