Yahoo eMail Troubleshooting Guide

Yahoo Mail is a popular webmail service that gives users a free e-mail address from which to send and receive messages. This service is run by the Yahoo network, which means that users have to be registered with the web network to use the mail service. If you are having trouble with your Yahoo Mail account, there are several troubleshooting steps you can try.

Wrong Browser
Yahoo! Mail only supports a select number of Internet browsers. As of January 2010, Yahoo! Mail supports the current versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome and Opera. While some past versions of these browsers are still supported, Yahoo! Mail is always updating, and it is advisable to get the latest versions of these browsers before they fall out of date with the current version of Yahoo! Mail.

Install Latest Version of Javascript Runtime Environment
Yahoo! Mail is a visually intensive application that uses the Javascript programming language to deliver dynamic content and an interface that is easy to use. For this reason, it is important that you have the latest version of Javascript Runtime Environment installed. To install the newest version of Javascript Runtime Environment, visit the Java website (See the Resource section for a link) and follow the prompts to download the software package.

Disable Anti-Virus and Firewall Programs
Although the Yahoo network of websites is generally thought of as secure, if you have your anti-virus and firewall programs set to maximum filtering levels, they may block certain Yahoo! Mail features. To correct this, disable your security suite while you are browsing your Yahoo! Mail account. If your security suite offers an "allow" or "white list" feature for specific websites, try adding Yahoo! Mail to the list so you won't have to disable the software every time you want to check your mail.
