The Farkle Dice Rules

Farkle is a popular dice game for 2 or more players. There are several variations and alternate names for the game, but all follow the same general rules and guidelines. While rolling the dice may seem based entirely on luck, knowing a bit of strategy can help you win at farkle.

General Rules
Each player takes turns rolling the dice and play moves clockwise around the table once the first player begins. When it's your turn, roll all 6 dice at once to try and gain points. Any dice that have a score should be set aside and the rest of the dice can be rolled again. The player's turn is over when they decide to stop and add up their points or if they fail to roll any scoring dice. A non-scoring throw is called a farkle and causes a player to lose all accumulated points for that turn.

Earning Points
Several dice combinations score points: 3 of a kind, 3 pairs, 1s and 5s and a sequential straight using all 6 dice. The player must select at least one of the scoring dice to set aside if they choose to roll again. A player cannot combine dice from different rolls to earn points. If a player tosses three farkles in a row, 1,000 points are deducted from their overall score.

Scoring
If you roll a 1, you get 100 points, and 50 points for a 5. If you roll 3 of a kind, you score as follows: 200 points for 3 2s; 300 points for 3 3s; 400 points for 3 4s, and so on. The exception to this rule is 1s: if you throw 3 1s, you receive 1,000 points. If you roll 3 pairs (for example, 2s, 5s, and 6s), you score 500 points. If you happen to throw a six-dice straight, 1,000 points gets added to your total.

Winning
When one player reaches 10,000 points, a final round is played. Each player has one last chance to beat the person who has reached 10,000. The player with the most points after the final round wins the game.
